Goa garbage solution in sight?

Garbage treatment has been the biggest worry for Municipal bodies in the state of Goa since liberation and the issue has reached a boiling point at the present moment with huge piles of garbage lying unattended at the sonsoddo dump site at Margao

Garbage management has failed despite some half-hearted approaches made by the Margao Municipal Council to sort out the issue. The private companies  whose services  the MMC employed in the last many years have abandoned the same midway with allegations of non-co-operation being levelled from both sides.

The latest company to present its proposal to the Municipal council of Margao was Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) a Delhi based company dealing in waste management services who gave a presentation of its garbage treatment technology .

IL&FS who has been scientifically treating around 200 metric tonnes of garbage on a daily basis at its treatment plant in Okhla showed its willingness to manage and treat the garbage at Sonsoddo provided the existing garbage is shifted to another location and the place is completely vacated before handing over the same to the IL&FS to start operations.

The fomento group has expressed its desire to take up the project as a part of their corporate social responsibility and with ILFS Ecosmart Ltd made the above presentation to the council.

The council clarified that there has been no decision taken on the matter and that the company had only presented their proposal which had to be studied. The Council is yet to receive a formal proposal from the company regarding the treatment plant.
