Shigmo festival of Goa

After the carnival festivities, it is the turn of the Shigmo festival in Goa and the state is slated to celebrate the festival this year for a p eriod of around 14 days beginning the 12th of March 2009.

The Goa tourism development Corporation has constituted the central committee which includes the chairpersons of the 13 municipalities of Goa which met recently to decide the dates of the float parades in the state.

Float parades are now slated to be held at Ponda on 12th March, March 13 at Curchorem, March 14 at Panaji, March 15 at Mapusa, March 16 at Vasco, March 17 at Bicholim, March 18 at Sanquelim, March 19 at Valpoi and March 20 at Pernem.

In South Goa, the float parades will be held on March 21 at Quepem, March 22 at Margao, march 23 at Sanguem, March 24 at Cuncolim and March 25 at Canacona. There have been respsective local committees appointed for the smooth functioning of the parades.

For Panjim, Margao, Vasco and Ponda prize monies are fixed at Rs 25,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs 15,000 for the first three prizes.
