Goa Police register FIR against 3 in Reis Magos fort restoration.

Armed with the directives of the Goa bench of the Bombay high Court, the Porvorim police have booked an FIR against three people on charges of altering and defacing the Reis Magos fort during its restoration.

The cases have been booked against the Director of Archives and Archaeology Manohar Dicholkar, well known Architect Gerard D'Cunha and Helen Hamlyn of the United Kingdom.

In his complaint, Mr Sainath Jalmi a Civil Contractor has allegedly accused the trReis magos fortio along with the workers at the Reis Magos Fort of " destroying, removing, altering and defacing the protected monument and damaging public property".

Restoration work on the 16th Century fort has been undertaken since June 2008 after the work was entrusted to Indian National Trust of Art and Cultural Heritage through the Helen Hamlyn Trust , United Kingdom, following an agreement .

The fort is a heritage structure and a strategic defence for the erstwhile Portuguese regime at the mouth of the Mandovi river , equipped formerly with 33 guns and a small garrison could easily nail down vessels trying to enter the river and proceed to Old Goa the former capital of Portuguese Goa.
