Its "Fools day" for sure, but this is no joke!

Come 1st of April 2009, ATM users in Goa as well as the rest of India can breathe freely inside any ATM. From today, ATM users do not have to pant high and dry looking out for the ATM of their own bank to withdraw money and can in fact use the services of any other bank ATM for the same purpose without spending an extra paisa.

The move to reduce fees by other ATMs was made last year on 10th March when the RBI had issued guidelines to limit the fee  levied by banks for using their ATMs by clients of other lenders to Rs 20 and balance enquiry was made free of any charge till 31st March 2009.

Now, in an enhancement of those guidelines,  a recent RBI directive prevents banks from charging any fee for cash withdrawals using ATM and debit cards issued by other banks from 1st April 2009 onwards.

However, use of credit cards at any ATM is subject to bank charges for services such as cash withdrawal etc.
