Scholarships for higher education in the UK may be a reality for many Goan students who will now have an opportunity to explore such options when the British council in association with the University of Goa will brief Goan students on ULK scholarships on 9th and 10th of March 2009.
The briefings are expected to be held at various college institurions in and around the state at Dhempe College of Arts and Science in Panjim, MES college of Arts and Science in Zuarinagar, St Xavier's college of Arts and Science Mapusa and Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science Margao.
Scholarships ranging from the Dr. Manmohan Singh scholarship,The Bristish Chevening scholarships, Commonwealth scholarship to the recently launched Scotland Saltire Scholarships , Popular Arts scholarships, Charles Wallace India trust and scholarships instituted by Goan trusts such as the De Souza Trust Goa scholarship and the Modu Timblo Scholarship etc will be deliberated.
The De Souza scholarship which was introduced in 1998 has granted scholarships to many Goans out of which around 21 Goans have completed their studies in diverse fields such as human rights, TV documentaries, media management, Architecture, communication systems and signal processing, law, innovation technology, music therapy, computing and design and architectural conservation.
The above scholarship provides financial assistance for Goans to study in the UK. The other Goan scholarship established in the honour of Mr Modu Timblo is the Modu Timblo scholarship which covers tuition fees either in part or whole besides arranging a UK visa for the duration of the course and all other costs are to be borne by the student themselves.
